The Lampshades were formed in early 2003 in rural central Pennsylvania by lead singer/guitarist Jaren Love. Along with Love, The Lampshades consisted of drummer Josh Imler and bassist Chris Kibler.
The band received attention early on in their local area for their early CD-R demo releases, which were assembled with jewel cases and hand written liner notes. With these lo-fi gems and their sometimes charmingly sloppy live shows, the band caught the ears of some people in the music business such as Los Angeles based music video producer Jonathan Buchanan and the Scranton, Pennsylvania based Prison Jazz Records (The A-Sides, The Sw!ms).
As a result, their first release, Sunshine, was released in summer of 2005 on Prison Jazz Records. After many shows, a few member changes, and a full year on and off in the studio, the band released a second album, Surprise!, on their own Soap Bar Records.
With their newest and strongest line up to date -- original members Jaren Love (lead vocals/guitar) and Chris Kibler (bass), along with multi-instrumentalist Dane Adelman (drums/vocals) -- The Lampshades have toured the Midwest and played all over Pennsylvania and the surrounding states and continue to be college radio darlings. The band has opened for well established indie acts such as Deerhunter, Travis Morrison’s Hellfighters, Joe Lally (Fugazi), Love of Diagrams (Matador) and Headlights.
A third, self-produced album, entitled The Lampshades Are Alright has just been released (Summer 2008). The album was mastered by Aloha (Polyvinyl Records) percussionist TJ Lipple. The POLICE SCANNER 7" will be released in late summer 2009.
